This is how it's going to be? This is what she must do? ”Petty theft, of the Oak Town Museum no less?” Christiane-Gael voiced out loud in the presence of Tartaros. Besides her feet stood her adviser and companion, the ever so silent but always seen Exceed, Nanine. Nudging Christiane-Gael with her paw, Nanine shrunk onto her hind legs, whispering in a barely audible tone, ”Mademoiselle Enfant Perdu, it wouldn't hurt to get some experience with cloak and dagger operations. That is, if you don't mind.” Christiane-Gael crossed her arms over her blue-dyed linen gown, protecting all parts of her body except her arms due to the careless nature of her sleeve's frills and size, her upper chest with her cross landing in front of her bosom, and the teasing section of her lower thighs from the gown and the black decorated knee-high boot wear. Cupping her chin in deep thought, her eye's emotional reactions all but hidden behind her eggshell mask, Christiane-Gael reached for the request with nary a glimmer of contentedness from her plain lips. Flipping her ponytail, scrunched up by a decorative flower-patterned hair clamp, behind her, she walked out of Tartaros in bewilderment. This is a first. Stealing from a museum; but, there's a first time for everything. So sad it had to be from a museum, a theft of knowledge from one of the world's final strongholds.

How he fumbled his own words onto a scrap of paper, the frustrations of writing when one is so deathly nervous. It exhilarated him. But, nonetheless, he is in front of the Oak Town Museum on nothing more but a refurbished wooden bench. His attitude spurned people away, his words of cursing and vileness convinced parents to stay away from him. That would've been the case, had anyone been there. Rarely has anyone ever gone to sit at a museum bench at the fifth hour after midnight. For Lorenzo, this is a safe hour in a dangerous location for what he is planning to hire a mage to do. For that certain mage, Mademoiselle Enfant Perdu, it made traveling to him that much easier. ”Lorenzo, I presume?” Christiane-Gael asked him with no mind in particular to his mad ramblings about poetry and science. Sitting far away from him, repulsed by his decently handsome constitution, she sat Nanine below the bench so she could listen to their conversation without being asked what she is. ”The name is Lorenzo, yes. I see Tartaros sent a little girl in a silly costume and a mask to help, but no matter. You has seen my request, yes?” He nonchalantly began to speak as if he were superior, and she inferior. ”I have. Do you have any information on patrol schedules, amount of guards, the security in the museum, anything magical I should worry about?” Christiane-Gael cut in sharply, brushing off his comments with little to no audible contempt despite her mind thinking otherwise. ”I have lost a slip of paper. It has a few lines of poetry of you find your day to be dull. But stay away from the backside, it's not my best writing I'll has you know.” Leaving in no hurry, but with a posture which demands respect, a slip of paper the size of a large book with the thickness of a dictionary page flew out from behind him without a care in the world. Crawling out from underneath the bench, Nanine pulled it back and unfolded it for their viewing pleasure. Everything Christiane-Gael needs to know, on a rather large, thick sheet of paper. And a rather lovely poem about the meaning of life as well.

”Mademoiselle Enfant Perdu, look.” The Exceed whispered, urging her master to come forth and kneel to look at the homely sheet of paper upon closer inspection, ”I can't read it, describe it to me.” Christiane-Gael commanded of her Exceed in a less than pleased tone of voice, ”From the looks of this, active human security drops significantly between the hours of four and five in the morning as the museum is beginning to open to the public. Umm, actually, from what I can read Mademoiselle, the plan has been mostly laid out for us. A cart carrying logistical materials for the museum arrives every day, without fail, between 0400 and 0410. While they are passing through the security checks, security in the flanks falls significantly in order for them to ensure safe transfer.” Nanine showed Christiane-Gael, as if her eyes could comprehend such details. Sensing displeasure, Nanine continued shakily, ”U-U-Uhh, well, when that occurs, I can fly you over the walls of the flanks. Under cover of night, the shrubbery, and the massive trees, we can sneak past the remaining security and I my fly you to the second floor where we may then proceed to the vault containing the spectral cloak on the first floor.” As Nanine gasped for air to continue once more, Christiane-Gael interrupted her, ”Stop, I'll analyze the rest when we get home. It is past the hour of action anyhow.” Furling the parchment away, Christiane-Gael left for Tartaros in no such hurry. The hour would come when she would return, and this museum will be derived of one of its sacred intellectual possessions.

Hours of slaving away on a piece of information with her sight restored by these horrid eyeglasses, Christiane-Gael returned with Nanine the next morning at exactly 0330. It was early, but Christiane-Gael used the extra time to further prepare mentally, and strategically.

But the cart came as predicted, at 0407. Sneaking across the street, Nanine generated white wings of brilliance and glided Christiane-Gael effortlessly across the household high walls of the museum. Landing in the cover of shadows and darkness of the wide polished trees and evenly cut grass, mistress and Exceed prowled across the grounds of the museum as if they were playing red-light, green-light. Red light, the guards were looking in their general direction. They couldn't move, could not look up or down for fear moonlight would reflect off the whites of their eyes. Green light, no one is looking, and they can use cover of shrubbery and trees to move slowly, avoiding the sounds that come with ruffling the leaves as best as possible. A game mistress and Exceed both repeated time and time again, even unto twenty seven minutes past the fifth hour of morning.

But when they reached the final stretch, the guard having significantly doubled in size since their little game of move and stop, they hit a snag. Mistress and Exceed had final push left, but with the amount of guards around, they wouldn't be able to play their little game anymore. Whispering to her Exceed, ”Heaven favors the bold, Nanine. However, heaven gives providence to those with patience.” Christiane-Gael had planned for this. The half moon wouldn't give too much light, but she didn't want to wait for the new moon, even the possibility of being unable to cross this portion. It was likely the client wouldn't wait. What she didn't plan was for the two of them to take so long to reach this point, when the security has returned to maximum. She had hoped to finish before the sun ever rose, but it seems unlikely now. Christiane-Gael would have to wait until the next guard changeover, in approximately seventeen minutes.

She had already waded on his toes, crouched in a terribly uncomfortable position for nearly an hour and a half already, another seventeen minutes meant little to her. For a museum holding so many magical artifacts, guard changover was quite messy. They would leave and arrive separately, allowing almost a five minute window of a part of the grounds uncovered. And that is where Christiane-Gael abused the guards. At exactly 0545, when the last guard of the early morning shift left, leaving only three guards to cover a large tract of ground by themselves, mistress and Exceed crawled towards the museum wall as close to the ground as possible when all three of their eyes were closed. As if heaven had truly blessed her, they were large, slobbery, ineffectual guards as well. They took minutes to scan just one area. With this advantage, Nanine activated her Aera Magic once more and flew Christiane-Gael onto the museum's second floor balcony, leaving behind just a trace of ruffling feathers and clothes.

From there, it was almost as if they could both see the light at the end of a long, cramping tunnel. The insides were barely guarded, save for a janitor or three. It was merely a matter of watching her corners, crouching low to the ground, and using a handkerchief to remove the spectral cloak. To Christiane-Gael, it looked ordinary, not worthy of her efforts. But, if the client truly wishes it, so shall it be.

Making her way into the mess hall and into the kitchen, Christiane-Gael stuffed Nanine into a large crate full of garbage before joining the whimpering Exceed herself. With more waiting, unfortunately, both were finally escorted out by the janitorial stuff to the Oak Town dump site. Despite her uncouth scent, both of their scents, Christiane-Gael disregarded Lorenzo's nasal health and handed him the spectral cloak as is. In all it's primal form, garbage-induced scent included. ”You could has washed it for me.” Lorenzo began, swaying away from her in his own home. All he received in return was a glare through Mademoiselle Enfant Perdu's mask, to which he countered with her payment in full.

Mistress and Exceed need a bath. A very, long bath.
